AbstractAbstract
[en] Salt solution caverns are suitable repositories for low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes because of low permeability, closure, and geological stability. Laboratory tests show that simulated salt-waste mixtures will compact to low porosities during closure, isolating the wastes indefinitely. The principles of slurry design, placement, and cavern behavior are presented. (author)
