AbstractAbstract
[en] A biographical essay on Dan Motyka, CEO of Questor Technologies Inc., is used as the framework for discussing a new breed of gas incinerator that can handle large gas flow fluctuations and achieve very high combustion efficiencies. This portable unit with no flame, no smoke and no odour, is also claimed to be perfect for testing sour gas wells. The company built and sold two dozen units to date, can burn efficiently even with gas flow fluctuating from 50 Mcf/d to 750 Mcf/d. Independent testing of the portable unit in March 2000 at a Shell sour gas natural well north of Calgary showed combustion at better than 99.9 per cent at flow rates of 2.5 MMcf/d to 4.6 MMcf/d. The custom-built incinerator's versatility and ability to handle rich mixtures makes it ideal for use at oil batteries which produce rich gases that flares are often not able to burn properly
