AbstractAbstract
[en] We explain briefly why Compton scattering from a crystal gives a featureless continuous x-ray background while Bragg scattering from the same crystal produces sharp diffraction peaks. It is shown that the answer lies at the heart of quantum mechanics, namely the uncertainty and the complementarity principles. (author)
