AbstractAbstract
[en] As part of an IAEA Co-ordinated Research Project, Sandia National Laboratories performed an extensive study into the accident environment associated with the maritime transport of radioactive materials. The severity of the mechanical loadings that can occur during ship-to-ship collisions was investigated via finite element calculations and compared with the resistance of transportation packages. The severity of fires onboard ships was also investigated via physical tests and finite element calculations. This paper will summarize the results and conclusions from the Sandia study. (author)
