[en] The objective of this study is to analyze and foresee international trends related to nuclear non-proliferation activities and to suggest desirable policy directions so as to mitigate hurdles that may hinder the promotion of utilization and development of nuclear energy in Korea and contribute on the national economic development. This study approaches the trends of the international nuclear area in five aspects. First, this study analyzes the trends of the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, which includes the NPT, the IAEA safeguards system, the international nuclear export control regime and the CTBT. Second, this study analyzes the trends of various international nuclear organizations, which include (1) IAEA, a central body of international nuclear diplomacy, and (2) OECD/NEA, a group of nuclear- advanced countries. Third, this study reviews the nuclear cooperation between South and North Korea including the LWR supply project to North Korea. Fourth, this study analyzes issues concerning bilateral nuclear relationship, which plays a critical role in pursuing nuclear non-proliferation.
