AbstractAbstract
[en] Application of etchant hydrochloric acid and hydro flouride acid solution on welded titanium A-70 has been carried out. Titanium A-70 represents a commercially pure titanium (CPT) alloy with the contents about 99,0% titanium. In this research the surface of welded titanium sample has been ground by grinding paper from 240 mesh until 800 mesh, and polished by 1-micron diamond paste. For this experiment, 20 ml HCl, 40 ml HF and 40 ml H2O were used as etchant solution. The macro etchant heated up to 70 oC, then the welded titanium A-70 sample immersed into the solution for 30 minute. To release the smut form, the sample immersed gain into 3% H2SO4 for 3 minutes. The fruits of research show that even though in the previous the etchants has been used with the aim just for observing the macro structure of weld throat however could observe the microstructure of titanium alloy as well. From microstructure of base material, heat affected zone and welding zone, show just alpha phase in hexagonal close-packed (HCP) crystal structure, that means the welded titanium is a completely the commercially pure titanium
