[en] Anisotropic exchange parameters αkq and exchange potential parameters αk/2 associated with the superexchange interaction have been obtained for YbIG. The parameters are compared with parameters for EuIG and ErIG. The variation in the parameters on going across the rare-earth series is compared with the variation in corresponding crystal field parameters obtained for the rare-earth gallium garnets. Exchange splittings contributions from a-site and d-site iron ions are identified
