AbstractAbstract
[en] Management of what is known as institutional radioactive waste, i.e. radioactive waste produced by research and development institutions, industry, medical facilities, etc., is among the activities conducted by the Nuclear Research Institute Rez plc (NRI). The NRI provides management of the majority of institutional radioactive waste produced in the Czech Republic and, at the same time, is the major Czech producer of institutional radioactive waste. The NRI's radioactive waste management system is described. While the amount of institutional radioactive waste produced in the Czech Republic is small as compared to radioactive waste produced by nuclear power plants, the issues include heterogeneity of the radioactive material, a large number of institutional radioactive waste producers, and risks associated with non-optimal management of institutional radioactive waste.
