[en] Full text: The nTOF project aims at a measurement campaign of neutron-induced reaction cross sections. The project plan is focused on the determination of nuclear data relevant for waste transmutation, dosimetry, and nuclear astrophysics. The project is based on the nTOF facility at CERN, a new spallation source, which delivers a pulsed neutron beam (pulse length 10 ns, repetition rate less than 1 Hz) with the worldwide highest peak intensity. Due to a long flight path (185 m) very good energy resolution can be achieved via time-of-flight techniques. The nTOF-facility is best suited to measure capture, fission and (n,xn)-cross sections of radioactive samples. In November 2000 the facility went into operation. A brief overview of the features of the facility and the envisaged measurement program will be given. Emphasis is given to the topics where Austrian participants are strongly involved, i.e. (n,xn) cross section measurements, nuclear data evaluation and theoretical modeling and the fast electronics in the data acquisition system.
