AbstractAbstract
[en] This survey provides information on nuclear energy in the Netherlands, within the international context and given various new developments. The report also endeavours to accurately present the wide range of opinions on nuclear energy in the Netherlands anno 2003. This survey of nuclear energy in the Netherlands was based on interviews and a literature study. In interviews policymakers, researchers, environmentalists and people from the nuclear energy industry gave their opinions on: new developments in nuclear energy; (societal) opinions regarding nuclear energy; and their feelings as to the need for a new debate. Various international policymakers were also involved. The literature study covered many reports, documents and an extensive scan of information available on Internet. As many authoritative sources as possible have been used, also according to recommendations of the advisory committee guiding the project. The advisory committee included people from all the interest groups mentioned above. Together they represented a wide range of opinions on nuclear energy. In agreement with the supervisory committee it was decided to focus on the most relevant subjects including safety, waste, proliferation and terrorism, climate change control, costs, decision-making and societal opinion. The report contains an overview of relevant facts per sub-topic and a view on the various opinions associated with each sub-topic
