AbstractAbstract
[en] As around 2/3 of research reactors over the world have been operated more than 30 years, the number of operable reactor is expected, between 2010 and 2020, to be reduced to 1/3 of present situation if the lifetime of research reactor is about 40 years. Therefore, it seems to be a worldwide trend that the number of new research reactor construction project is increasing. New research reactors were newly constructed and/or under planning and construction in some countries such as France(JHR), Australia(RRR), Germany(FRM-II), China(CARR), Egypt(ETRR-2), Thailand(ONRC), Vietnam and the Philippines. This tendency may be continued for considerable period of time. On the other hand, HANARO of 30 MW thermal power has been operating since 1995, and the number of users and utilizations has been increased rapidly. In 2010, the utilizations is supposed to exceed the capacity of HANARO. The utilization of research reactor is related to necessary and essential technologies of IT, NT, BT, ET and ST. Hence, R and D in the area of research reactor utilizations have a large effect on the growth of national industry, so to support satisfactorily such requirements of research reactor utilization is very important. In preparation for the domestic and international demand of research reactors, therefore, the final goal of this project is to develop a new and unique research reactor model which is superior in safety and economy and high value-added. This can be done by full use of experiences through design and operation of HANARO and new nuclear technologies developed in the future
