AbstractAbstract
[en] DUPIC fuel can not be irradiated in the FTL of HANARO until about 2008. In the 13th PRM, AECL proposed that KAERI fabricated DUPIC fuel can be irradiated in the FTL of NRU research reactor without charge of neutrons. Therefore, the purpose of this report is to analyze the feasibility of overseas transportation of KAERI fabricated DUPIC fuel from KAERI to AECL, Canada. The transportation quantity of DUPIC fuel to Canada is 10 elements (about 6 kg). This transportation package is classified as the 7-th class according to 'recommendation on the transport of dangerous goods' made by the United Nations. IATA regulation was strengthened from July 2001. Approvals from related authorities have been difficult since 911 terror. It was found that at present there is no proper air transportation cask for DUPIC fuel. So, air transportation is considered to be impossible. In case of transporting irradiated nuclear fuel by using a ship, an INF class ship should be used according to the SOLAS code. There is no INF class ship in Korea. At present, it is concluded that in order to transport DUPIC nuclear fuel to Canada, it is the best way to charter an INF class ship. But this method is expected to cost too much
