AbstractAbstract
[en] The Russian institute VNIPIET is involved in the design and equipping of the main nuclear facilities in the country. There are 30 reactors in Russian Federation and there is a developed infrastructure for the fuel cycle production. The institute carries out in design works on the spent fuel storage at the Kozloduy NPP. VNIPIET and the Bulgarian institute 'Energoproekt' have developed the design documentation for so called 'wet' storage facility for spent fuel from WWER-440 and WWER-1000. After the reconstruction the capacity of the facility will be 8064 casks (168 cases) for WWER-440 spent fuel and 1080 casks (90 cases) for WWER-1000. Currently the institute participates in a project for fuel consolidation in the wet storage facility. The institute participates also in the project for equipping of dry storage facility on the NPP site, placed close to the wet facility for safer transportation from wet to dry storage facility. Thus long-term (50 years) safe storage for 8000 spent fuel casks (WWER-440) and 2500 (WWER-1000) will be possible. Another area of activities of the VNIPIET is development of technical solutions for spent fuel transportation from the Kozloduy NPP. A scheme for fuel transportation is established. VNIPIET also works on the waste disposal problem on national and regional level
