AbstractAbstract
[en] This study focuses on the antioxidant activity, anticlastogenic properties and haemodynamic actions as well as radioprotective and radiotherapeutic potential efficacy of naturally occurring phytochemicals nutrients, distinctively polyphenols flavonoid mixture (G-Pack) and how they might influence various endpoints of radiation damage. G-Pack flavonoid mixture colloidal solution was supplemented to mice (1 ml/ 20 g body wt) by gavage for 7 successive days. Exposure of mice to (4 Gy) whole body gamma-irradiation induced significant changes in the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) associated with significant increases in the level of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in the testes as compared with control mice. The extended supplementation of G-Pack pre- or post-irradiation resulted in significant amelioration in the activities of antioxidant enzymes and significant decrease in the level of TBARS when compared to irradiated mice. Furthermore, remarkable improvement in the testes wt, sperm count and abnormalities were observed. Haemodynamic parameters (platelets aggregation, platelets count and mean platelets volume) were significantly ameliorated when compared to irradiated rats. Based on the results obtained, it could be suggested that, G-Pack might increase the resistance of the organs to moderate ?-irradiation. The administration of G-Pack pre-irradiation is more effective regarding to the measured parameters
