AbstractAbstract
[en] One of the major problems that complicates the interpretation of routine personal TL dosimetry with LiF:Mg,Ti, is the complexity of the glow curves obtained. It is a problem we have to deal with, because of the many advantages of this material to personal dosimetry (tissue equivalence, good energy response, acceptable sensitivity etc.). As many as 10 to 14 peaks have been identified, at temperatures from 60o C to 400o C. Each peak may have different dosimetric characteristics, and may be differently dependent on a variety of factors, as the annealing procedure and type of radiation. Most of the peaks overlaps, creating the need for mathematical handling to separate them from each other, if we wish to understand their characteristics. During the readout process the whole integrated contribution is obtained, causing the need for special procedures to obtain stable, accurate and reliable dose evaluations, non-dependent on uncontrollable parameters. One of this parameter is the time (between irradiation and readout, and total storage time), that determines one of the basic characteristics of a TLD material-the fading, defined as the loss of the stored TL signal following irradiation. The time-dependent fading is associated with the change in the TL signal to dose ratio. As the exact time of exposure is usually not known in routine personal dosimetry, the aim of the dosimetrists is to minimize this effect, or to be able to correct for it as accurate as possible. This job is not without challenge, as the reported data on fading varies to a considerable degree. The present work concentrates on issues concerning the decay of peak 3 in the glow curve of LiF:Mg,Ti, which is generally regarded as one of the main contributors to the fading effect in this material
