AbstractAbstract
[en] A new expression for the microscopic scattering kernel of the thermal neutrons on the hydrogen atom nucleus of the water molecule is derived in integral form, which enables the investigation of the space orientation influence of the water molecule plane on the inelastic thermal neutron scattering. For the incident neutron energy E0 = 0.15 MeV and the neutron scattering energy E = 0.09 eV and E = 0.21 eV, it is established that the partial microscopic kernel of the inelastic thermal neutron scattering on the rotational phonons of the water molecule has maximum at significant backward scattering existing when the angle between the directions of the incident neutron and normal on the water molecule plane is θ element (60 deg, 75 deg), but when backward scattering transfers to the forward scattering two local maxima exist, one of them occurs at θ = θm1 and the other one at θ = θm2 . θm1. Decreasing the scattering angle both local maxima disappear, first maximum at θ = θm1 and then the maximum θ = θm2. However, when E0 = 0.15 eV, E = 0.03 eV and when neutron scattering angle γ ≥90 deg, then the partial microscopic inelastic thermal neutron scattering on the rotational phonons of the water molecule has only one significant maximum, which occurs at θ element (20 deg, 60 deg), and this maximum does not exist when γ < 90 deg.
