AbstractAbstract
[en] Various pyrochemical reprocessing treatments have been studied, developed and experimented in the world. The generic principle is the dissolution of irradiated elements in a molten salt eutectic at a temperature of 500 to 800 deg. C and the more or less selective recovery of the various elements of interest for their subsequent recycling or conditioning. Several environments (chloride, fluoride) and techniques (molten metals extraction, electrodeposition, precipitation) are still under study and some of them have reached maturity. This note describes the works to be carried out to evaluate the possible contribution of pyrochemical processes in the recycling and management of long lived radionuclides. These works include: scenario studies for the determination of the nature and amounts of wastes to be processed, exploratory and basic studies to evaluate some process concepts, and specific studies to evaluate the feasibility of the implementation of pyrochemical processes (chemical engineering, corrosion, wastes management etc). Content: pyrochemical processes (principles, interest, main research paths, critical analysis), potential role of pyro-chemistry in the fuel cycle (recycling scenarios for actinides and long-lived fission products, fuels and targets for transmutation, concepts under study), proposed research paths, proposed research program (scenario studies, evaluation of concepts and options, approach of processes implementation, scientifical and technical feasibility, facilities, schedule), possible cooperations (research fields in concern, actions in the Gedeon and Practis research groups, possible contributions of the international cooperation).
