AbstractAbstract
[en] Within the plans of the National Center for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Control to establish radiological data base for the so-called (New Cities) a radiological study of Sadat and 6th of October cities was carried out by tile. CLERMIT. From these 2 cities 33 soil; and 15 ore and end product (ceramic) samples were collected. The samples were prepared and analyzed using high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometers based on HPGe-detectors. It was found that for the soil samples of Sadat city the concentration ranges, in Bq/kg, are (6.2 -18.4) for uranium-238 (Radium-226) series, (6.4 - 19.6) for thorium series, ( 59.4 - 248.9) for Potassium -40 , and (0.1 - 6.2) for man-made caesium-137. For 6th October city, the ranges of radionuclides concentration are (7.7 - 16.7) for uranium, (5.2 -15.7) for thorium, (75.0 - 163.0) for potassium, and (0. 1-1.2) for cesium. For the ore and ceramic samples from the two cities, it was found that the ranges of concentration are (3.2 - 123.4) for uranium, (0.5 - 90.7) for thorium, and (12.2 - 1899.6) for potassium. To assess the radiological effects of these radionuclides, the radium equivalent activity Raeq and the external hazard index for all studied samples were calculated. The absorbed dose rate (n Sv/h), and dose equivalent rate (n Sv/11) in air one meter above the ground level at each soil sampling location were also estimated
