AbstractAbstract
[en] The mechanisms underlying anomalous transport and its connection to turbulence play an important role in the accessibility of improved confinement regimes in magnetically confined toroidal plasmas, which are at present thought to be intrinsically linked to flow shear interaction with the turbulence. Investigations in both ASDEX-Upgrade L and H-mode plasmas were performed using a fast reciprocating probe on the midplane manipulator. A probe head with five Langmuir probes was used, with three of the probes measuring the floating potential and its fluctuations. The remaining two probes were biased to ion saturation and swept, respectively. Electron temperature was inferred from current-voltage characteristics. The poloidal and radial separation between the probes was 4 mm. During a pulse typically a few reciprocations into the plasma were performed. The probe configuration allowed the calculation of the radial fluctuation-induced particle flux simultaneously with the Reynolds stress. The Reynolds stress and the fluctuation-induced particle flux both show a number of bursts of increased intensity during each ELM event, thus, revealing part of the ELM fine structure. The statistics and dynamics of the Langmuir probes signals and the correlations with the divertor probes and Ha-signals were investigated during the ELMs and between ELMs and are compared to the corresponding values in L mode. The measurements for Reynolds stress and particle fluxes in the quiescent phases between ELMs are compared with numerical simulations of 2D SOL interchange turbulence for ASDEX Upgrade parameters. Similarities and differences between ELM events in the experiment and intermittent blob events in the simulations are discussed. (author)
