[en] Four varieties of female pygidium were recorded in the adult Callosobruchus phaseoli (Gyllenhal) whereas male possesses unicolor pattern. The color pattern of the pygidium occurs due to their cuticular pigmentation. In female, the variation in relation to their color pattern was found significant (p>0.001). Our observations disagree with the previous findings of the sexual dimorphism based on the pubescent color pattern of the pygidium. The characteristics of the female and male pygidium of C. phaseoli are described and illustrated. (authors)
