AbstractAbstract
[en] Determination of luminescence ages of Martian sediments requires procedures for accurate estimation of equivalent dose and dose-rate below the Martian surface. We have developed a new Monte Carlo code utilizing Geant4 simulation toolkit to calculate the GCR dose-rate within a Martian soil profile. Our results suggest that total GCR induced dose-rate at the Martian surface is ∼43mGya-1 for average solar activity (modulation parameter=600MeV), and is much higher than the environmental dose-rate of ∼0.7mGya-1. Furthermore, we discuss the dependence of the total GCR dose-rate on solar activity, and implications for luminescence dating of Martian sediments
