AbstractAbstract
[en] Outline of nuclear fuel cycle including the preparation of the fuel for light-water reactors, spent fuel reprocessing and radioactive-waste disposal is given followed by introduction of the present status of Japanese fuel cycle. Then, the present paper focuses on reprocessing technologies for the spent fuels to be used in FBR type reactors under consideration in JAEA which includes the minor actinide recycling. Status of other countries, USA, France, India, China, and Korea are each briefly introduced, while explaining AFCI (Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative), a focused R and D program to support the implementation of an advanced nuclear fuel cycle and to provide for an effective transition from the current once-through cycle, and also GNEP (Global Nuclear Energy Partnership) which offers a responsible framework for both international and domestic uses of nuclear power to reduce the risks associated with nuclear proliferation and the impacts associated with waste disposal both proposed by USA.
