AbstractAbstract
[en] Pencil beam kernel (PBK) for a given depth was calculated based on field profiles (penumbras) in the following 5 steps: (1) The scatter kernel was calculated based on the phantom scatter factors measured at a reference depth assuming identity of the Pi and Pe profiles; (2) The intensity profile Pi was calculated by solving the convolution equation; (3) The Ks(r,z) value was recalculated by using this new Pi; (4) The boundary kernel was calculated from the observed field edge profiles; (5) The resultant kernel K was calculated as a combination of Ks(r,z) and Kb(r,z). For the dose distribution calculation, the transverse PBK profile at the given depth was fitted with 3 Gaussian curves in the Matlab code. The dose calculation by using the PBK convolution integral could then be reduced to the analytical solution of an equation. A good agreement with values observed in a water phantom was obtained.(P.A.)
