[en] The whole report issued by the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland takes a look at the institute's SwissFEL X-ray Laser facility. In this eighth and final part, the SwissFEL Accelerator and Free Electron Laser installation is introduced and its functioning is described. The SwissFEL baseline design aims to produce FEL pulses covering the wavelength range 0.1 - 7 nm using a compact and economic design. The baseline technology for the SwissFEL electron injector is discussed. This relies on the radio-frequency gun photo-injector concept. The two functions which the SwissFEL linear accelerator (Linac) must fulfil are discussed. Further, this illustrated chapter presents the parameters and schematic layout of the facility, which has a total length of 800 meters. An overview drawing of the building is presented and cross-sections at two positions are shown
