AbstractAbstract
[en] Metal ions and their corrosion products released from the steam generator tube surface induce the irradiation buildup and axial offset anomaly. The objective of this project is to develop modified steam generator tube materials for reducing corrosion release in the primary coolant. Zinc injection in the primary coolant has a good effect in source term reduction in several plants. Based on this background, Zinc was selected as a minor alloying element. The Zn-alloyed materials satisfied the mechanical and microstructural specification of the nuclear grade tubing. Corrosion test in a primary coolant environment showed no detectable weight change in all test alloys both after a 1,000 and 2,000 hr exposure. Specimens polarized at 150 mV above the corrosion potential for 144 hr showed a decrease in weight change by 32%. The zinc addition had little effect on the resistance to stress corrosion cracking in a caustic environment. However, the feasibility of Zn-alloyed tube should be validated by a longer-term test in a primary coolant condition
