AbstractAbstract
[en] The positive and negative effects of introducing nuclear power plants into a municipality are shown by analysing the example of Vandellos. Town councils work to try to encourage alternative activities but they cannot on their own face the entire process of change and adaptation. An active participation of the European Union, of state and companies is needed in order to encourage this sort of development. The situation existing in smaller communities should not be forgotten. They are the ones that have to bear the brand and they are the ones who can show the future in co-operation, because they are the once who are best acquainted with the municipality and their own villages. With the help of companies, member states and European Union, a sustainable future either with or without nuclear power plants can be faced. The experience of Vandellos could be used as an example to other towns and villages in Europe
