AbstractAbstract
[en] Nitriding process using ion implantation does not change substrate structure but it produces hard nitride skin and improves fatigue life. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of nitrogen-ion implantation on fatigue life resistance of medium carbon steel by supported testing microhardness, roughness, microstructure and chemical composition. Substrate materials were nitrogen-ion implanted with ion dose (D) variation. The research show that the maximum hardness number was 242.75 VHN for the dose 4.4785 x 1016 ion/cm2, the thickness of ferro nitride thin film was 1.03 μm, the implanted nitrogen took place was 1.10 % weight and the fatigue endurance increase.
