AbstractAbstract
[en] Imaging by tomography involves gathering projection data from multiple directions and image using specially designed mathematical algorithm. Apart from being non-intrusive in principle, the technique has the ability to provide cross sectional information in investigated sample from the reconstructed image. The aim of this research is to provide a novel application of ultrasonic tomography on Aquilaria tree sample. Ultrasonic measurements of the signal velocity performed at multiple directions at the circumference of the Aquilaria sample (twelve equidistant test points) were acquired using the longitudinal ultrasonic wave through transmission method. The data collected are then processed using the linear back projection algorithm to reconstruct the tomography images and the resulting images are then analysed for the characterisation of the Aquilaria sample internal properties. The work demonstrates the successful tomography image reconstruction by ultrasonic measurements to be applied in non-metallic non-destructive testing application. (author)
