[en] A method for estimating the enrichment of fresh VVER fuel assemblies using a miniature CdZnTe probe is proposed and its potentials and limitations are briefly discussed. The results from applying this method to measurements performed at the Kozloduy NPP demonstrate its practicability. With a measurement time of 10 to 20 minutes, the root mean-square deviation of the results is comparable with the enrichment margin declared by the manufacturer. The method does not require independent calibration standards. A limitation of the method is that for producing reliable estimates a series of measurements of a group (several tens) of assemblies of identical design with different enrichments is needed
