AbstractAbstract
[en] The aim of the study was to calculate the entire retained activity (Ar) in the patient's body on the basis of external measurement of the dose rate. Patients were measured 20 minutes after per os application of iodine - 131I, and prior to discharge after radioiodine therapy (RIT). We evaluate if the Ar is within the permitted limit before releasing patients from hospital. The measurements were obtained on 100 patients, in the age from 25 to 80 years. The radiation doses from external exposures have been measured with the area monitor on the 1 m distance from patient. On the day of discharge, 86 patients had Ar under 800 MBq. From these results we can see that the amount of Ar after RIT depends not only on the respective activities of 131I, but also on diagnosis, iodine thyroid uptake and the speed of excretion (biological T1/2). Individual approach based on physical measurements is necessary in order to decide upon the hospital stay duration.(author)
