AbstractAbstract
[en] Boron neutron captured cancer therapy (BNCT) is a developing cancer therapy nowadays. This therapy offers targeted cancer therapy using neutron irradiation on cancer cells injected with boron ("1"0B) compound. The development of this technology depends on several aspects, such as the development of neutron generator technology and boron carrying agents to cancer cells. Boron carrying agent has to comply general requirements: low toxicity, reach and accumulate in cancer cells better than normal cells, and quickly being eliminated from the body. Currently, improvement of boron carrying agent has already come into the 3"r"d generation which focus on compounds targeted specifically on cancer cells. Nevertheless, common boron compounds used clinically nowadays are two compounds, sodium borocaptate (BSH) and p-boronophenylalanine. Development of compounds targeted on cancer cells is based on invention of cancer specific markers, such as membrane receptors (EGFR and HER2) and nuclear receptor (estrogen receptor). Example of these compounds is boron carrying antibody and a ligand which interacts specifically with a cancer marker. Further researches on these compounds needs to be conducted as well as new invention on cancer markers is continuously reported. (author)
