AbstractAbstract
[en] Silicon PIN detectors have several superior properties such as low operating voltage, fast response, good S/N ratio, and compactness. Moreover they can be fabricated using standard silicon planer technology resulting in high uniformity and lower costs. Due to their good energy resolution, silicon PIN detectors are used for alpha spectroscopy of actinides in nuclear facilities and radiation monitoring. These detectors are also used for charged particle spectroscopy in nuclear physics experiments. Such detectors are being presently imported. Hence indigenous development of silicon detectors has been initiated by Electronics Division, BARC. An overview of detector design, fabrication and detector performance results are presented in this paper
