AbstractAbstract
[en] The negative muon transfer process in the liquid mixtures of C_6H_6 or C_6H_1_2 and CCl_4 was studied to examine the chemical effect on the muon capture process through a muon transfer reaction from the muonic hydrogen atom. Muonic X-rays, which are emitted after the muon capture by carbon or chlorine atoms, were measured using high-purity germanium detectors. We found that the capture ratio of carbon atoms to chlorine atoms in a C_6H_6 + CCl_4 system is approximately 1.5 times higher than that in a C_6H_1_2 + CCl_4 system. This result can be explained by assuming that the muon transfer rate for the carbon atoms of C_6H_6 is higher than the rate for the carbon atoms of C_6H_1_2. This finding is consistent with our previous study on the pion transfer process in the same sample system, in which different pion transfer rates were obtained between C_6H_6 and C_6H_1_2. (author)
