[en] Highlights: • Phytic acid is an effective inhibitor in neutral concrete solution on rebar. • A deposited film is detected as three-layer structure. • The precipitated inhibitive film deposits in two stages. - Abstract: The corrosion inhibition effect of phytic acid on 20SiMn steel in simulated carbonated concrete pore solution contaminated by Cl"− was investigated by weight loss, electrochemical measurements, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy. Results show that the inhibition efficiency of IP6 is up to 84.0% after 72 h immersion. An deposited film forms on the surface of specimen after the addition of IP6, which includes three layers: the inner layer consists of Fe_3O_4 and FeOOH; the middle layer contains Fe_3O_4, FeOOH and FePO_4; the outer layer consists of Fe_3O_4, FeOOH, FePO_4 and Fe(II)-IP6.
