[en] The paper illustrates a fatigue design strategy, based on the physics of the damage evolution, under development by the Composite Group at DTG-University of Padova. After a brief introduction, where the motivations of the work are analysed, examples of damage mechanisms at the microscopic scale are discussed. Then the procedures for the quantitative description of these mechanisms are illustrated. (paper)
