AbstractAbstract
[en] In occupational medicine, medical care must be geared toward the prevention of worker health. However, occupational medical examinations often seek only reduce absenteeism and thus increase productivity. Achieve this goal, many institutions include radiological examinations in their occupational medical assessments, contrary to the principle of justification. The objective of this work is to provide a reflection about the presence of radiological exams in occupational medical evaluations. A review of the literature was performed including legislation related to the research topic. It is verified that the technical regulation on radiological protection prohibits the performance of radiological examinations for employment purposes, except in cases in which the examination may represent a benefit to the health of the individual examined or to society. However, in some situations Regulatory Norm 7 of the Ministry of Labor and Employment foresees the accomplishment of radiological examinations as parameter of monitoring the occupational exposure. Article 168 of the Consolidation of Labor Law also determines that additional examinations may be required, at the discretion of the physician, to determine the physical and mental fitness of the employee. It can be concluded that although there are legal provisions that prohibit and others that allow radiological examinations in occupational medical evaluations, the institutions must take into account that any radiological examination has a risk involved and should not request them in a compulsory and indiscriminate manner.
