AbstractAbstract
[en] Partitioning and transmutation (P and T) strategy is a viable option for safe management of HLLW. To enable transmutation of actinides, efficient separation of trivalent actinides (An(III)) from chemically similar fission product lanthanides (Ln(III)) is necessary. In the recent past, single-cycle approach for the separation of trivalent actinides directly from HLLW is receiving increased attention. This approach consists co-extraction of both An(III)+Ln(III) by a suitable solvent containing both the neutral and acidic extractants followed by selective stripping of actinides(III) using soft donor stripping agents. Among the various techniques reported, solid phase extraction is ideally suited for the separation of small quantities of trivalent metal ions present in a large volume of HLLW. In this respect, the extraction behavior of Am(III) and Eu(III) from nitric acid medium was studied in the solvent impregnated resins (SIRs) containing extractants such as octyl(phenyl)-5A, 5Adiisobutylcarbamoylmethylphosphine oxide (CMPO), tetra-bis(2-ethylhexyl)diglycolamide (TEHDGA) and bis-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) or mixture of CMPO+HDEHP and TEHDGA + HDEHP. The resin used here for impregnation of extractants is Tulsion ADS 400
