AbstractAbstract
[en] Samarium-153 chelated to ethylene diaminetetramethylenephosphonate (153Sm-EDTMP) is one of the most widely used bone seeking radiopharmaceutical that has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. In this study, we have developed a robust electrochemical separation methodology for removal of radionuclidic contaminants of Eu from 153Sm produced using natural Sm2O3 targets in Dhruva reactor. The conditions for the electrochemical separation have been optimized, and the feasibility of the method, both in terms of yield and the purity of 153Sm for preparation of 153Sm-EDTMP, has been evaluated. We have developed a viable electrochemical approach for the large-scale purification of 153Sm from radionuclidic contaminants of Eu. The present strategy may well be extended for radiochemical separation and purification of other medically important radioisotopes
