AbstractAbstract
[en] The author first outlines that the content of the new American Nuclear Posture Review is much more reassuring for NATO allies than expected after some statements made by President Trump, notably in terms of extended deterrence. The NPR in fact appears as a formal exercise dictated by strategic and political issues. It also displays an actual continuity with respect to the previous ones, while however stressing the capacity of American weapons to deter non-nuclear attacks. The document also expresses an American will to reassure its allies and partners, and to correct a possible lack of credibility of the present doctrine by strengthening the low power American arsenal. Some innovations about different capacities are evoked, but the author notices that the NPR contains very few elements regarding arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament
