AbstractAbstract
[en] High Pressure Rinsing (HPR) using high purity Deionised (DI) water for surface cleaning of Superconducting Niobium Quarter Wave Resonators (QWRs) is the final preparatory step before installing the resonators in the cryostat. It removes fine particles and chemical residue remaining from electropolishing (EP) adhering to the surface which does not get dissociated by rinsing with deionised water at low pressures. High pressure rinsing with de-ionised water reduces field emission in the resonators and improves accelerator gradient significantly. The HPR system was indigenously developed, fabricated and installed inside a class-100 clean room. The salient features of the system comprise of a Class100 clean room, indigenously developed filter housing and filter, high pressure water gun, apart from a particle counter for checking suspended particles in De-ionised water. A rotary mechanism is provided to rotate resonator and a linear motion drive is also coupled with the water gun to move it forward and backwards. In order to validate the system, initially a few resonators were tested before and after HPR. After getting satisfactory results in the resonator performance; this process has been adopted as a regular surface cleaning step for the QWRs. This paper reports the construction, operational details of the high pressure rising system along with the results obtained and improvement in the accelerating gradient of resonators. (author)
