AbstractAbstract
[en] In a travelling wave linac, the RF power is fed through an input coupler to accelerate the beam, and the remaining RF power at the end of the linac is out-coupled through an output coupler to a matched RF load. One interesting and useful alternative of an output coupler and a matched RF load is to have a collinear load. In this option, the inner surface of some of the regular cells near the exit of the linac are coated with a resistive material, such that the RF power is absorbed in the cells itself, which act as a matched collinear load. In this scheme, the output coupler and external load are therefore not needed. The analytical calculations and electromagnetic simulation studies were performed to calculate the geometrical parameters of a proposed collinear load for the 10 MeV, 6 kW travelling wave electron linac developed at RRCAT, Indore. In order to validate the design of the collinear load, end-to-end three-dimensional electromagnetic simulations have been performed for the complete accelerating structure, starting from the input power coupler up to the collinear load. The frequency spectrum of the S11 parameter at the input coupler port, along with the profile of amplitude and phase of accelerating field along the length of the linac has been calculated for this configuration, which is described in the paper.
