AbstractAbstract
[en] Wideband (300 MHz to 700 MHz), cost effective, Multiport (2-port, 3 port and 6 port) tapered microstrip line based RF power dividers have been designed and realized in laboratory. Circuit schematic of these RF power dividers has been modelled and optimized with AWR’s Microwave Office (MWO). ARLON TC350 with dielectric constant of 3.5 and thickness of 0.8 mm has been chosen as RF substrate for microstrip transmission line media. For wider band match, novel idea of multiple stepped sections of impedance tapers have been realized for impedance matching of junction of output ports while keeping structure length to minimum. Return loss better than 22 dB was achieved in circuit simulation over entire band. Low power RF measurements for this these RF power dividers were performed with VNA and Return loss better than 15 dB (input reflection less than 4%) was achieved and they were also successfully characterized at 500 Watt of input RF power with excellent amplitude and phase symmetry of outputs. Broadband 2-Way RF power divider has been utilized in 40 kW SSPA at 650 MHz and 100 kW pulsed RF SSPA at 325 MHz. 3-port microstrip line based RF power divider has been deployed in 50 kW SSPA commissioned as RF Station-1 at Indus-2. 6-port RF power divider can readily replace existing costlier 8 port rigid coaxial line divider for 75 kW SSPAs commissioned at Indus-2.
