AbstractAbstract
[en] Full text: Granite processing industry generates a huge amount of waste that pollutes and degrades the environment. Brazil is a leading producer of blocks or finished products of ornamental rocks, but losses can be of the order of 30 to 40% during the various stages of production (extraction, cutting, sawing and polishing of stone blocks). Therefore this study aimed to evaluate the effect of the addition of granite waste generated by the State of Paraíba processing industries as raw material alternative ceramic tiles industry. Two mass samples used in the industry, a mass for red ceramic and another for white ceramic, both with granite waste addition, were studied. Granite waste and the samples were characterized by particle size analysis using laser diffraction (AG), chemical analysis by X-ray fluorescence (EDX), differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The residues were added to the compositions of clays as the most promising technological properties, being taken for fabrication of the ceramic bodies and ceramic undergoing tests, determining the ceramic properties of linear drying shrinkage, linear firing shrinkage, water absorption, porosity apparent, bulk density apparent and flexural strength by three points in order to evaluate the possibility of accumulation of residues on ceramic for use in white and red pottery.
