AbstractAbstract
[en] Full text: Considering a high worldwide prevalence of cancer and side effects caused by current treatments, an investigation of new drugs and/or therapeutic regimen becomes necessary. Reinvention of traditional therapies has been a strategy of nanotechnology to decrease time and cost, because it is based on known active molecules for a not usual pathology. Within this context, digoxin, widespread drug used in cardiovascular therapy, has been recently investigated on cancer therapy because of its capability of inducing apoptosis in tumor cells. In view of this and aimed for an active segmentation, we goal a digoxin intercalation into a layered inorganic nanocarrier, layered double hydroxides (LDHs), functionalized with folate. This study presents the findings achieved to the corresponding binary systems: LDH-digoxin and LDH-folate. Products were obtained via solution from different w/w ratios. Their yield was indirectly obtained by spectrophotometry UV-Vis and they were characterized with XRD, TG and FTIR techniques. Nanosystem yields, both at a 1:1 w/w ratio, were 93.0% (± 0.54) and 91.2% (± 0.35), respectively. Techniques allowed the confirmation that digoxin and folate were associated to the nanocarrier, whether adsorbed or intercalated, respectively. These results suggest a viability of the LDH-folate-digoxin ternary system and it is expected their applicability on cancer chemotherapy. References: [1] P. S. Kim , S. Djazayeri , R. Zeineldin.
