AbstractAbstract
[en] Full text: In this work was employed the Sol-Gel method to obtain glass particles of BaOAl2O3- B2O3-SiO2 system for use as filler in dental composite. The sol-gel method permits the synthesis of glass powders employing lower temperatures, when compared with conventional methods, as melt quenching method. The addiction of barium ions in glass structure is desired in the dental field, since barium is radio-opaque, allowing the radiological observation of dental composites in restorations. Although the sol-gel method offers many advantages over the conventional method, it requires precursors solubility in ethanol in order to obtain a homogenous distribution of the ions in the precursor gel. The low solubility in aqueous or alcoholic solution of Ba2+ revealed a challenge to the synthesis method. To address the concern, several barium salts were studied. Among the salts, barium acetate and aluminum nitrate were chosen as precursors, due the stability of sol precursor. For the synthesis, aluminum nitrate, barium acetate and boric acid were dissolved in water. TEOS was dissolved in ethanol. Precursor solutions were stirred at 50°C during 24 hours when the gelation occurs. The wet gels were dried under 120°C for two hours, then calcined between 400°C and 600°C for 4 hours, under oxidizing atmosphere to eliminate carbonaceous. The glass particles obtained were studied by TGA, DSC, FTIR, XDR analysis. Particles morphology was observed by SEM. EDS was employed to confirm the chemical composition of glasses. (author)
