[en] Decay asymmetry and differential cross section for coherent ϕ-meson photoproduction from 4He were measured for the first time using linearly polarized photons at forward angles in the energy range of Eγ = 1.685-2.385 GeV. The decay asymmetry was found to be very close to the maximum boundary, showing a strong dominance of natural-parity meson exchanges. To evaluate the natural-parity contribution to the elementary γp→ϕp reaction, the energy dependence of the forward cross section (θ = 0) obtained here was compared to available low-energy γp data through models. We found that destructive interference between Pomeron and unnatural-parity exchanges and/or additional natural-parity exchanges beyond Pomeron exchange are needed in the γp reaction near the production threshold.
