AbstractAbstract
[en] In this research, YBCO high temperature superconductor was synthesized in two methods: one using a microwave oven (M-O sample), the other a sol-gel method (S-G sample). The samples were compared after they had been characterized by ρ–T (resistivity versus temperature), I–V (current versus voltage), x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope analysis. We found that the time required for preparing YBCO was reduced to 15 min by using microwaves, in comparison with 24 h in S-G method. As well, the values of critical transition temperature T c and critical current density J c for M-O sample (94 K and 3.8 A cm−2 respectively) were higher than their values for S-G sample (92 K and 1.2 A cm−2 respectively), and M-O samples had smaller grain sizes and better grain boundaries which are the advantages of using microwaves for preparing the samples.
