[en] Capsule R2-K13 was a cooperative irradiation experiment between GA Technologies Inc. (GA) and the Kernforschungsanlage Juelich GmbH (KFA) under the U.S. Department of Energy/Federal Republic of Germany Umbrella Agreement for Cooperation in Gas-Cooled Reactor Development. The overall management of the experiment was provided by KFA in close cooperation with GA. The general objectives of the experiment included the demonstration of acceptable irradiation performance by (a) reference, coated fuel particles fabricated in production equipment, (b) reference fuel rods cured-in-place in H-451 graphite and (c) lumped burnable poison wafers and volatile spacers; the verification of fuel performance models for fission gas release; the characterization of fission product behavior; and the provision of fuel rods and other samples for postirradiation tests.
