[en] This publication first recalls and outlines that acting for climate before 2020 is a scientific recommendation. It also notices that this issue of action before 2020 is a delicate one as the pre-2020 regime of the Kyoto Protocol is not operative yet, even though nearly finished, as actions foreseen by Parties and non-State actors are mainly concentrated on the medium and long terms (with deadlines beyond 2020), and as the IPCC did not mention in its last report the importance of reaching the peak before 2020. In this context, this sheet aims at shedding a light on the stakes of the pre-2020 action and ambition, while focussing on industrialised countries because they are those which are required to take commitments of emission reduction by 2020. Thus, it proposes overviews of reduction commitments adopted in Copenhagen, Cancun and Doha, of the status of ratification of the Doha amendment, of the evolution of emissions by the main emitting countries, and of the pre-2020 action of developing countries.
