AbstractAbstract
[en] The report provides information on the Italian nuclear legacy assistance programme in Russia in 2011. Italy completed the construction and delivery of a special ship for transportation of submarine spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste in North-West Russia. Another key area of joint efforts was the dismantlement of decommissioned nuclear submarines. Italy reported about the dismantlement of the fifth nuclear submarine at the Nerpa shipyard and the provision of new dismantling equipment for the site. Italy was working on the design and construction of facilities for management of liquid and solid radioactive waste at Andreeva Bay, a former navy base in North-West Russia. In 2011, the planned radioactive waste management scheme at Andreeva Bay had been changed, which affected Italian-led projects. Other projects included physical protection of shipyards and manufacturing casks for spent nuclear fuel.
